Miami Premiere Engagement!

From Cannes and Venice Best Director

Winning Director Amat Escalante!

THE UNTAMED

(La región salvaje)

Directed by AMAT ESCALANTE/Mexico/2017/100mins.

With Ruth Ramos, Simone Bucio, Jesús Meza
Eden Villavicencio, Andrea Peláez

Young mother Alejandra is a working housewife, raising two boys with husband Angel in a small city. Her brother Fabian works as a nurse in a local hospital. Their provincial lives are upset with the arrival of mysterious Veronica. Sex and love can be fragile in certain regions where strong family values, hypocrisy, homophobia, and male chauvinism exist. Veronica convinces them that in the nearby woods, inside an isolated cabin, dwells something not of this world that could be the answer to all of their problems. Something whose force they cannot resist and with whom they must make peace or suffer its wrath. (In Spanish with English subtitles)

WINNER: Best Director, Venice Film Festival

Best Director, Austin Fantastic Fest

“Grade: A. There’s something dark and wonderful lurking in The Untamed, the brilliant, frightening, hyper-real erotic mystery from the mind of Mexican auteur Amat Escalante… The Untamed does that very rare thing in cinema in that it blends mystery, horror and pseudo-reality with a kind of dark subconscious arousal.”-Rory O’Connor, The Film Stage

“A FEROCIOUSLY INDIVIDUAL, HIGHLY INTELLIGENT PIECE AND A SUPERB, VERY AFFECTING CAST…”-Jonathan Romney, Screen

★★★★ Imagine if H.P. Lovecraft had written The Joy of Sex, or better still a porn parody of Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. Neither of these analogies are particularly accurate but we're in the right territory - the wild region to use a more literal translation of the original title - for Mexican director Amat Escalante's polymorphously perverse fantasy The Untamed”-Cinevue
