Austrian Film Kurier, THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, 1935. #MBCarchive
Based on the characters in the Mary Shelley novel Frankenstein, in fact generally considered closer to their spirit than in the original 1931 film, Dr. Frankenstein creates a mate for his monster in this wildly successful and at times hilarious sequel. Elsa Lanchester plays the double role of Shelley herself, relating the story of her own creation, as well as the Bride, one of the most famous and emulated roles in the history of cinema.
“WHALE’S MOST PERFECTLY REALIZED MOVIE, A DELIGHT FROM START TO FINISH”-Time Out
“Whale added an element of playful sexuality to this version, casting the proceedings in a bizarre visual framework that makes this film a good deal more surreal than the original.”-Chicago Reader
