SUN, SEPT 08, 4p tour, 5p film:

Presented in collaboration with

The Wolfsonian-FIU

Directed by Gaspar González, 2018; 50 min

In the 1940s and '50s, Havana’s love affair with Hollywood saw movie stars like Ava Gardner, Marlon Brando, and Gary Cooper flock to the Caribbean—and immortalize the tropical island’s paradise and pleasures on the silver screen. Spot visiting celebrity caricatures through a 4pm tour of The Wolfsonian’s latest installation on work by 20th-century graphic artist Conrado W. Massaguer, then head up the street for a 5pm showing of Errol Flynn’s Ghost: Hollywood in Havana. The 2018 documentary follows the history of the American cinema craze in Cuba to one actor’s mountaintop meeting with a young Fidel Castro before the Revolution.

Q&A with film director Gaspar González to follow the film
